DRHC Welcomes Kyla Barrie MD

September 1, 2020

DRYDEN, Ontario - The dedicated efforts of the Health Human Resources Committee through the Dryden Health Services Foundation and the Dryden Regional Health Centre have been successful in recruiting a new physician to Dryden.

The Dryden Health Services Foundation is very pleased to announce that Dr. Kyla Barrie will join the Dingwall Medical Group Family Health Network. Dr. Barrie will work as a full-time family physician at the Dingwall Medical Clinic and provide Emergency Room coverage at the Dryden Regional Health Centre.

Dr. Barrie graduated from the University of Manitoba Family Medicine Program and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as well as an honourable commitment to the community of Dryden.

"My parents moved to Dryden about 15 years ago so I decided to see what it would be like to work there," says Dr. Barrie. "I was able to arrange a few electives here as a resident and loved it! I liked the challenge of working in the many areas of medicine so I knew being a rural doctor was right for me. I enjoyed working with everybody at the DRHC and Dingwall Clinic during my electives and was sad when I had to return back to the city. Dryden is a beautiful place to live and work. I can't ask for more!"

Dr. Bruce Cook, Chief of Staff at the Dryden Regional Health Centre adds, "We've had the opportunity to develop an exceptionally positive and confident relationship with Dr. Barrie over several years and we're very pleased to have her join the Dingwall Medical Clinic. She has been working with us as a learner, medical resident, Locum physician, and now as a full partner in providing care to our community. She's well-oriented to the services we provide both at the Health Centre and at the Clinic and her commitment to Dryden is inspiring."

As a teaching hospital, the DRHC offers unique opportunities and varied experiences for students and residents who complete medical learning placements in a small, rural facility.

"Recruitment of medical professionals takes considerable time and can start with their experience as medical learners in health centres like ours," comments Doreen Armstrong-Ross, President and Chief Executive Officer. "Our valued partnership with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine introduces us to potential recruits early in their learning experience and provides us opportunity to foster relationships that can end in successful recruitment. Such has been the case with a number of family physicians in Dryden and now with Dr. Barrie. We're very excited to work with her."

Brad Coles, Chair of the Dryden Health Services Foundation adds, "We're excited to welcome Dr. Kyla Barrie home to Dryden and look forward to the expertise and personalized care she will bring to patients of all ages."

The Dryden Health Services Foundation is committed to keeping quality health care close to home and supports the ongoing recruitment efforts of medical professionals.
