The Dryden Regional Health Centre is seeking to fill the following position with a highly motivated, team-orientated professional:

Permanent Full-Time Registered Practical Nurse: Emergency Room/Infusion Clinic


The RPN provides client care in accordance with the Professional Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario. They, as a member of the health care team, has a significant role in promoting health, preventing illness, and helping clients attain and maintain the highest level of health possible in situations in which a client's condition is relatively stable, less complex and the outcomes of care are predictable.

Responsibilities:

Patient Care

  • Maintains CNO Standards of Practice
  • Participates in ongoing evaluation of client/family needs
  • Collaborates with client/family to ensure their safety
  • Applies knowledge in a professional manner
  • Provides health teaching to the clients and their families
  • Performs nursing duties within scope of practice

Communication

  • Reports to the RN all relevant clinical data
  • Informs client/family of any procedures/tests and responds to any questions/concerns
  • Establishes rapport with client/family and other team members
  • Communicates with other team members to ensure communication cycle does not break down
  • Documents pertinent information to ensure continuity of patient care and to meet legal requirements
  • Functions as a preceptor for students and helps orientate new staff to the department

Other Activities

  • Performs regular chart audits
  • Contributes to Department by performing related tasks as required
  • Maintains skills/knowledge by attending educational sessions and keeping informed of Hospital policies and procedures
  • Assists physician with procedures as needed
  • Administers medications as per physician orders
  • Transcribes and carries out physicians orders
  • Performs wound dressings, wound packing as per policy
  • Performs cast removals, application of air casts, basic splinting, sling application, fitting patients for crutches
  • Administers IV meds as per CNO guidelines and PRHC policies and Procedures
  • Initiates, maintains, and discontinues IV therapy
  • Performs Point Of Care Testing (POCT) for glucometer and urinalysis

Qualifications:

  • Current Certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current CPR
  • Knowledge of Emergency Room procedures
  • Current BCLS
  • Good Physical health
  • Demonstration of strong nursing practice, skill and judgment
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills including superior verbal communication abilities
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, leadership and mentoring skills
  • Proven attendance record
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the job
  • Demonstrates DRHC Core Values; Accountability, Integrity, Humility, Compassion and Respect
  • Proof of COVID vaccination to be presented prior to hire
