The Dryden Regional Health Centre is seeking to fill the following position:


Casual Medical Laboratory Assistant

As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, Dryden Regional Health Centre's Medical Laboratory Assistants provide comprehensive compassionate care to a variety of clients; they are knowledgeable in the theory, technique, and clinical application of the various procedures performed and must be skilled in the performance of those procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute all aspects of phlebotomy including venipuncture and capillary collections
  • Proper patient identification and preparation of blood collection
  • Monitor pending lists, retrieve results, and track specimens/time-sensitive tests
  • Specimen procurement
  • Execute operation, maintenance, and QC of automated instruments under direct supervision of an Technologist
  • Perform point of care tests
  • Maintain and equip EKG machine and holter monitors
  • Set up PCR test runs
  • Participate in accreditation, inspection, and quality improvement procedures and initiatives required
  • Receive and input new stock into inventory database
  • Provide nurses and patients with collection instructions
  • Assess referred in specimens to verify sample requirements are met; issue sample rejections if required
  • Clerical duties as required
  • Monitor temperatures for thermally controlled equipment
  • Follow Transportation of Dangerous Goods protocols to prepare coolers for shipping

Requirements:

  • Certified Laboratory Assistant designation preferred
  • Phlebotomy Skills, EKG and Glucose monitoring an asset
  • Current CPR
  • Previous work in a Laboratory preferred
  • Proven attendance record
  • Able to perform the essential duties of the job
  • Demonstrates behaviours consistent with Dryden Regional Health Centre's Code of Conduct and Standards of Behaviour

  • Proof of COVID vaccination to be presented prior to hire

This is a union position. Compensation will be as per the Collective Agreement starting at $30.14/hr. with an additional 11% in lieu of benefits. Applicants are requested to forward resume and cover letter to; hr@drhc.on.ca
